About Me

My name is Mari Fong and I am a student at Chico State currently studying Communication Design. I was previously a Computer Animation Game Development major, with an emphasis on Game Development, but switched majors to focus more closely on design. I am from San Francisco and currently live in Sacramento.

I have extensive experience in conventions and cosplay, having begun in 2017 at my first convention, Animation on Display (AOD), which has since gone defunct. I have staffed many cons, both currently and in the past, including Anime Los Angeles, Offkai Expo, YumeConUSA, and Fanime, participating in a variety of divisions including Formal Dance (where I work as a cosplay judge), Gaming Hall, and Maid Cafe (both participating as the department head and maid). I currently host the NorCal Cosplay Gatherings, which host gatherings in the Bay Area, and more recently, Sacramento.

I have a huge passion for making cosplays and making merchandise, all hand-in-hand with my convention experience. I have 15 years of sewing experience, but only got into making cosplay in 2017. I started tabling at artist alleys in 2023, and aspire to grow my business in 2025.

In this major I hope to be able to build upon my existing digital graphics/art skill set and be able to apply them both in a professional setting, and in my convention staffing career.
