For this project, we were assigned to create a SciFi themed hallway. I deviated a little and went for a fantasy SciFi themed hallway, inspired (heavily) by The Legend of Zelda. I'm a little less inspired by spaceship theming, and more in tune with fantasy, which is why I decided to go this route.
My first task was to make up my modular walls, floors, and ceilings. This was fairly simple, just modifying some planes (and I added a bit of detail to make them look a little more rocky). I also created objects that I could scatter throughout the scene to add some variety. This included two different rocks, torches (which also act as my lighting for my scene), a shelf, and a button. For my floaters, I used some Hylian symbol font to create them. I went in and extruded the text, and beveled it so it would appear when I baked it. This was very time consuming, and I had a bit of a hard time figuring out how to bake them in Painter, however with the help of my classmates I was able to get the help I needed.
Texturing itself was easy, the only issue I had when texturing was having to hand paint one of the floaters, as I was not able to get the mesh for it to bake properly so I used a work around.
These are some of the maps I ended up with for Unity:
Overall I am quite satisfied with the outcome and I have learned the value of modular game kits. It cuts out much of the work that would have been otherwise spent on creating hundreds, if not thousands, of individual pieces.
